The "Programming" Problem
Fobs are traditionally added to the car using the factory programming procedure to "teach" the fob’s ID to the immobilizer. This process requires the vehicle PIN code and the ability to navigate a series of timed keystrokes. This takes practice, and the alarm is easily triggered, further complicating matters. Even with practice, an increasing number of 993's aren't able to program fobs due to aging ignition switch contacts.
Many turn to specialty shops for programming. But this comes at additional cost and significant effort by the owner to remove and reinstall the seat, security bracket, and immobilizer—not to mention the risk of damage and vehicle downtime. Faced with these obstacles, many continue driving without a backup.
What Makes the F 2 Different?
When you add a fob using the factory programming procedure, you are pairing it to the immobilizer. When you add an F 2, you pair it to another fob. By learning from a fob that’s already been through the programming process, the F 2 doesn't have to go through the process again and you'll be up and running in seconds.
Setting up an F 2 is incredibly easy: simply hold the F 2 and a "donor" fob (one that's paired to the car) next to each other and hold both buttons down until the LED on the F 2 starts flashing. That’s it! A 10-second, hassle-free backup:
How do I use the F 2?
Since both fobs share the donor fob's ID, you need to "select" which one you want to use by pressing it 3 times near the car. Once selected, the fob functions normally: one press to lock, one press to unlock. The selection procedure is only necessary when you switch fobs. You can switch back and forth as often as you like, but it’s really optimum for situations where one fob is the "primary" and the other is the "backup".
